Introduction to Mike Locklin!

Hey everyone, my name is Mike Locklin, and I’m a production manager at the world famous FloraBama. I would like to share my experiences with the Third Rail Electric cable company and their amazing handmade cables. I’ve worked in music stores for decades, and I’m familiar with quality cables. I’ve been trained by the manufacturers’ engineers, who develop the products us musicians use. I’ve been beta testing products for decades and have programed factory presets for rackmount guitar preamps and vocal processors. I’ve worked at the Flora-Bama for 16 years, installed the sound systems for six stages, and run the sound for thousands of performances. I’ve seen a lot of new and old products but I’ve never seen anything as revolutionary and innovative as the cables the Third Rail Electric company has been developing. I have always been sincere with my customers back in the days when I was a salesman and product specialist at the music stores I worked at. I would show my customers only products I believed would be best for them. I built a customer base with honesty. Now with that being said, these cables by Third Rail Electric are by far the best cables ever developed. They are handmade and offer the incredible ability to mechanically control the resonance of the signal! Yes, you can fine-tune the tone of your instrument and vocals.

TriTuneable Instrument Cables
Let me start with the TriTuneable instrument cables. There are three sliders on the cables that can slide back and forth on the cable. The sliders are mechanical resonance control works by moving the sliders to create “nodes” just like changing the notes on a guitar. Which fret you put your finger behind creates a note which creates a specific resonance. Kinda hard to understand until you hear it. If it’s crazy and it works, it ain’t crazy, right? I plugged my Jackson electric guitar into my pig nose 40 watt tube amp and immediately noticed a stronger signal in comparison to my regular instrument cable. I moved the sliders around. I felt the changes that occurred, and I quickly found the sweet spot for all three sliders. The Lows became tighter where they were loose and mushy, highs were not biting anymore and the midrange was what blew me away. My Jackson became more rounded, and stratlike!

Edison and IEC power AddOn cables
As crazy as it sounds, I continued experimenting with some of their other products.
Next, I tried the Edison and IEC power AddOn cables.  I plugged my pig nose tube amp into the Edison tunable power AddOn cable and plugged it into the ac outlet. I began to slide the slider around and once again I was blown away. I can hear and feel the tone tighten up. I can feel and hear each string of my guitar more clearly.

ShortFuse guitar cord AddOn
Next i used the ShortFuse guitar cord AddOn which is a tone enhancing short 1/4” inch male to 1/4” inch female.  I plugged the speaker output of my amp to the cabinet and this old pig nose always had a honking gnarly nearly unusable mid range, but by sliding the slider between the speaker output jack to the speaker cabinet input I found I had a tone control over the speaker cab and found a tonal sweet spot I never had before with this amp! It sounded like a good fender tube amp! Mind blowing! With the TriTuneable guitar/instrument cable, the Edison tunable power AddOn, and the ShortFuse AddOn, I was able to design the tone of my guitar and amp using the mechanical resonance slider controls, which until now was never before possible! And then there’s the most incredible cable of all time, The LINK ONE!

Link1 XLR and Vocal Cables
Every year in November at the Flora-Bama we have the Frank Brown international songwriters festival 200+ hit songwriters for 10 days. The main room here at the Flora-Bama has been regarded as one of the best listening rooms in the country. I set the stage for four in the round, and every hour or so we change to the next round. four song writers at the time, I keep my PA tuned to the room with RTA and test equipment and we get great sound!

Third Rail Electric set me up with four TriTuneable guitar/instrument cables and four Link1 vocal cables, as well as multiple Edison and IEC power AddOns(for the PA.) Link1 XLR cables were developed for enabling tonal complexity and low register dynamics—all four vocal mics had one. I was able to move the sliders around and fine tune them to the room! We used sm58’s for the festival and I did not need to use the channel EQs (except for the low cut) the entire festival! NO SHIT!

All in All
I know it sounds crazy! And it is crazy, but it works!! With the Edison power AddOns, the TriTuneable guitar/instrument cables, and the Link1 XLR vocal AddOns, our room sounded better than ever! Everyone raved about the sound through out the entire festival! There are many more products I’m still experimenting with, and I will share my experiences with them soon.
